Fall 2020 Competitive Team Placement

After reviewing the most recent Tri-County Health Department and the Governor’s “Safer at Home” COVID-19 orders, it appears to be highly unlikely a change will take place to the current protocols before Competitive Team Placement is scheduled the week of June 22. With the number one priority being the health and safety of the players, their families, coaches, and staff we will not host team formation in the same way as in past years due to the large number of people involved in the process. Competitive Team Placement will be organized as follows:

1.      Players Returning to the Colorado United Competitive Program
2.      2010 Boys and Girls Competitive Team Placement for the U11 Age Group
3.      New Players to the Colorado United Competitive Program

Players Returning to the Colorado United Competitive Program
All players registered on a competitive team spring 2020 and fall 2019 high school girls were notified that they will be welcomed back to their current team moving to fall 2020. Returning players will not be moved down, when teams are formed. However, players may be moved up.

The Director of Coaching and Age Group Assistant for each age group have spent time evaluating player placement prior to the suspension of the spring season. In addition to observing players during games and training sessions, team coaches have shared feedback about each player on their teams. It is our philosophy that a player’s consistent training habits, play in games, and overall attitude provide a much more accurate evaluation than a 1 ½ hour tryout.

It’s important that each returning player complete the Competitive Team Placement Form no later than Monday, June 15. We will use the information included on the form to solidify the player pools for each age/gender. Verification will be sent to each family after June 15, asking whether or not their player will be returning. The teams will be finalized from the responses and registration will begin on June 22.

We understand that many players have dedicated themselves to playing on the highest team possible. The decision to move players up will be based on our overall evaluation of each player as well as roster size. If you have any questions about your child’s placement, please feel free to reach out to the Director of Coaching for your child’s age group.

2010 Boys and Girls Competitive Team Placement for the U11 Age Group
Beginning in the fall 2020, the 2010 age group is eligible to participate in the competitive program. Players interested in being selected for a U11 competitive team are invited to attend team formation at Cornerstone Park as scheduled below:

2010 Girls – Monday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 24 from 4:30pm – 5:45pm
2010 Boys – Tuesday, June 23 and Thursday, June 25 from 4:30pm – 5:45pm

Scheduling the 2010 girls and the 2010 boys separately, at Cornerstone Park, will allow us to spread out the groups and assign several entries and exit locations to the fields. Players are asked to attend both sessions scheduled for their gender.

It’s important that each player complete the Competitive Team Placement Form no later than Friday, June 19. We will use the information included on the form to build the player pool and assign groups for team formation.

Players cannot register at the field.

The Directors of Coaching will send out information to players that completed the Competitive Team Placement Form, on Sunday, June 21 with information about field assignment, where to enter and exit the field, equipment, and other COVID-19 protocol. Once team formation is complete, players will receive communication by email within 72 hours regarding placement.

New Players to the Colorado United Competitive Program
The Directors of Coaching are contacting 2009 and older players that will be new to the competitive program as they receive the “New Player Interest Form.” Many of the new players have been scheduled to participate in the “Pre-tryout Team Training.” If you have not been contacted as yet, please call or email the age group Director of Coaching for your child.

It’s important that each new player, to the competitive program, complete the Competitive Team Placement Form and the New Player Interest Form no later than Thursday, June 18. We will use the information included on the form to identify player interest in the age group pool. Directors of Coaching will contact players that did not attend the “Pre-tryout Team Training” to discuss possible placement options or schedule players for an Open Tryout on Friday, June 26 at Cornerstone Park.
